The plastic outer body panels were replaced with green units, the seats were re-trimmed in black vinyl, and a four-speed manual transaxle with inboard-mounted front disc brakes was installed. A hood-mounted spare tire was added along with a folding windshield, tubular bumpers and side rails, and Cibié Super Oscar driving lights. Other equipment includes a removable soft top and side curtains, a 123ignition module, a Solex carburetor, and 15” wheels. The Méhari debuted in 1968 and features ABS plastic body panels riveted to a tubular steel supporting framework. A Méhari 4×4-style hood with an integrated spare tire carrier was added along with a black brush guard, a tow-bar bracket, a tubular rear bumper, Cibié Super Oscar driving lights, doors, side rails, and rear mud flaps. The removable black soft top, side curtains, and B-pillars are shown in multiple configurations in the gallery. The windshield wiper arms have been removed, the rear hood restraints are missing, and cracks in the bodywork and inconsistencies in the finish are visible. Cream-finished 15” steel wheels are mounted with 135-series Michelin ZX tires, and a full-size spare is stored in the rear passenger compartment. The Méhari rides on a chassis shared with the contemporary 2CV that features independent swingarms with inertia dampers and longitudinally mounted spring cylinders serving the front and rear wheel on each side. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
